Funding Priorities
Thank you for your interest in Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada.
Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. As the preeminent leadership development organization for girls, Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is committed to giving all girls in our community the tools they need to become Go-getters, Innovators, Risk-takers, and Leaders. The results continue to prove that girls who join Girl Scouts develop leadership skills, have positive values, and most importantly, have an appreciation for their own potential and self-worth.
This is what you can make happen with a grant of $1,000 to $10,000:
A grant of $1,000 … supports S.T.E.M. (Science,
Technology, Engineering, Math) programming for girls in our DEI
Program.
A grant of $2,500 … gives an entire troop of Girl Scouts from our DEI Program the opportunity to attend summer camp.
A grant of $5,000 … helps fund vital maintenance and repairs to our facilities at Camp Wasiu II to keep our camp a beautiful, safe, and positive environment for the girls we serve.
A grant of $10,000 … supports nearly 60 girls in our DEI Program throughout girls at-risk in our community.
Our current funding priorities are:
- DEI Program: We serve girls in our community by delivering contemporary personal development and girl-led programming, known as the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), to girls at-risk (ages 5-17) at the downtown Reno homeless shelter, Title I after-school programs, and low-income housing sites in northern Nevada.
- Summer resident camp, Camp Wasiu II: Camp Wasiu II is a beautiful, high-mountain overnight camp located in the Tahoe National Forest near Sierra City, California. Camp is a critical part of girls’ leadership development as it provides girls in grades 1 to 12 with a deep appreciation for environmental stewardship — while they develop leadership, independence, and social skills in an outdoor environment.
- Girl Scouts S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Leadership Journeys and Badges: We’d like every girl to explore different aspects of STEM every year, so we’ve developed a unique, “fun with purpose” K-12 curriculum to inspire girls to embrace and celebrate scientific discovery in their lives.
