What are three helpful tips you would give a new Girl Scout Leader?

  1. Don't try to do it all yourself, remember Girl Scouts is "Girl Led" (have a Family meeting & recruit help from the families).
  2. Use the tools & resources that are provided!  (Volunteer Tool Kit, Experienced leaders in your Service Unit, Council Shop's lending library, your friends & family... Just to name a few).
  3. HAVE FUN & Know that we all were NEW to this, at one time! The girls will feed off of your Smiles & Positivity!  (sometimes you just have to Giggle).

What are two reasons you choose to volunteer with Girl Scouts?

The main reason I'm a Girl Scout Leader is...I truly BELIEVE in what Girl Scouts stand for & offers our girls! A safe place to try new things, to lead & be lead by their peers, to succeed, to overcome shyness, to find their voice, to be accepted...I teach all of the girls that I come in contact with, that they have an amazingly large family, full of Sisters...

I love the outdoors and I love that I can share that with girls that may never have the opportunity to camp and develop a love for the outdoors and nature. (My current troop of 14 Juniors love camping! Many of them (and their moms had never camped before they joined the troop).

What is one of your favorite Girl Scouts memories?

One of my favorite memories is when my Cadette troop & I went to Washington D.C. to the 95th Anniversary Sing-along on the Mall! Besides my daughter, (we were a military family and had just moved from the D.C. area) the others in our troop had never been to DC. To see our Nation's Capital through their eyes was AWESOME!

I just want the person who wrote about me to know I appreciate them just as much. I would not have continued this journey without my amazing moms that also go above and beyond!

What are three helpful tips you would give a new Girl Scout Leader?

  1. Don’t try to do it all yourself, delegate duties!! It took me several years to relinquish control of everything…lol, but what a relief when I did.
  2. Have fun!!! That’s what this is all about!
  3. Try new things!! You need to step outside of your comfort zone, we expect it of our girls so we need to be willing to do the same! I ziplined, white water rafted and sea kayaked for the first time ever with my Troop!!

What are two reasons you choose to volunteer with Girl Scouts?

My daughter brought home a flyer for a round up when she was a kindergartener. I remembered the two years I had been a Brownie and that sealed the deal. It wasn’t long before I was a co-leader in her Troop. So when her younger sister was old enough to join a few years later, I started a Troop for her.

My older Troop all graduated last year and we are now turning that Troop into a high adventure Troop for girls who are already in existing Troops. Next year my younger Troop will all be in high school!! It has been a wild ride with no regrets!

What is one of your favorite Girl Scouts memories?

Too many to mention. The final trip with my original girls in Troop 43901 last summer was epic. It was a 10-day road trip that included high adventure, awesome site seeing and memories to last a lifetime.

Anything Else?

I LOVE Girl Scouts!!! It is such an awesome opportunity not only for the girls but also for the leaders!!
