Parent Page for Campers

Here at Girl scouts of Southern Appalachians, we are excited for your girl to join us for summer camp!

Camp is an amazing experience that will stay with kids long after the last embers of the campfire have faded away. At Girl Scout resident camp, girl learn new skills, work towards earning badges, build independence and resiliency, and make lifetime friends.

If you have specific questions, feel free to email us at info@girlscoutcsa.org.

Summer Camp Arrival

We will be doing a “drive-thru” check in at the time assigned to your girl’s program. Families will not be escorting their girls to their sleeping areas. You will simply come to the main parking lot and stay in your car. There will be different stations that you drive to:

  • Trading post and general information station.
  • Meet with the healthcare person and give them any medications. Your girl will also get her “head check” where she will have her temperature taken and checked for lice.
  • The counselors and unit leaders that will be with your girl.
  • A luggage station. You can help get luggage out of the car and placed in the designated area. Should you choose to help with luggage, please wear a mask if you are not fully vaccinated.
  • A goodbye station. This will be where you will send the girl on her way!

Your assigned time will be sent to you prior to arrival. A sample schedule may look like:

  • CIT’s/ Counselors in Training- 2:00pm-3:00pm
  • 1st-3rd Grade- 2:00pm-3:00pm
  • 4th-5th Grade- 3:00pm-4:00PM
  • 6th-8th Grade- 3:00pm-4:00pm

Because of timing and staffing, please do NOT arrive early. Please come within your window. If you are bringing siblings, please bring them at the earlier time slot. We are going to do our best to get everyone through as quickly as possible so bear with us!

Camp Tanasi cannot accept travelers by boat; all campers must arrive by automobile. The camp gate will open at 1:00pm, but there will be no one available to answer questions or supervise your camper until check-in begins. Family pets are not allowed on the camp property. When campers arrive at camp, it is best to leave all luggage in the car until campers go through the entire check-in process.

Check-out will look similar!

  • You will stay in your car.
  • We will check our forms and your ID and then call for your camper.
  • You will visit the nurse table and the luggage station where you will be greeted by your camper.

Mail at Summer Camp

To ensure timely delivery, leave mail for campers with camp administrative staff during check-in and place it in the Mail Drop box. Please include your camper’s name, the desired delivery date, and your camper’s unit name (assigned at check-in).

Please don’t leave any food products for your girl, as they may attract rodents.

If you are sending a letter to campers through U.S. Mail, please allow five business days for delivery.
