FAQ's and COVID Guidelines

Registered and Ready to go?!  Our Summer Camp Guidebook has everything you need to know prior to arriving at camp this summer!

Refunds and Cancellations

Your deposit is refundable only in the following circumstances: absence due to a camper’s illness or injury, exposure to COVID-19 within two weeks of your camp program, death or serious illness of an immediate family member prior to the start of camp, or camp cancellation due to CDC, state or local mandates that prevent summer camp activities from occurring.

Site Location for Summer Camp 2023

Camp Tik-A-Witha  was chosen as the site for summer camp 2023 as it offers the widest range of camp activities to ensure that we are not only able to socially distance and sanitize before another group arrives, but also that we can provide program for the different interests of our campers. Camp Tik-A-Witha allows the best progression for all campers to attend at their camping comfort level, (platform tents, cabins, and lodges). Camp Tik-A-Witha provides not only a vast amount of program opportunities, but also is within proximity to one of our Council Leadership Centers and within driving distance for a majority of our summer camp staff. We are excited to hold summer camp this year, and hope to introduce the outdoors to new campers, families, and troops looking for adventure.

How do I register my girl for camp?

Camp registration opens online at 10 a.m. on February 1st, 2023 at www.girlscoutshs.org/camp. We encourage you to register as early as possible to ensure your girl gets the session she wants.

A $50 deposit is required to register your girl with the final payment being made no later than two weeks prior to session start date.

If your girl is planning on using Passport Bucks from the Fall Product or Girl Scout Cookie Program, register her as soon as possible and pay the $50 deposit. Passport Bucks cannot be used to pay the deposit. Once she has completed the Cookie Program and received her Passport Bucks, she can apply them toward her final balance.

If you register your girl and only select Passport Bucks as a payment option without also paying the $50 deposit with a credit card, your girl's spot is not reserved!

My camper’s program is full; what should I do?

If you call us, we may be able to add your girl to a waitlist. 1-800-624-4185 Unfortunately, very few waitlisted campers make it onto the roster, so you might consider participating in the Family Camp weekend or the Troop Camping option if possible.

Is there a confirmation packet or packing list?

Everything you need to know is included in the Summer Camp Guidebook. You’ll find packing lists, linked online forms that you will need to fill out, check-in and check-out times, and more valuable information about camp.

Can campers stay with a sister or friend?

Yes! If girls are registering for the same program, they can request one other girl as a buddy. Every effort is made to honor this request.

Will my daughter earn badges while at camp?

Most camp sessions will have Girl Scouts earning badges this summer, and we will send home checked off requirements for each badge your girl has worked on.

Will my daughter need money while at camp?

Meals and snacks are included in the session cost. Campers can purchase t-shirts, souvenirs, stamps, etc., from the Trading Post. Money for the Trading Post can be added using the online form - CLICK HERE. Any unused money will be returned at the end of the session.

All monies should be submitted online BEFORE ARRIVAL, as we will NOT be taking funds during check-in.  Also, remember that girls can use their Passport Bucks for Trading Post, too!!! Use the Trading Post online form to indicate that you would like to apply Passport Bucks to Trading Post.

Are cell phones, tablets or laptops allowed?

No. Camp gives girls the opportunity to unplug and be present in their experience.

How can I communicate with my daughter while at camp?

We highly encourage parents, siblings and family members to write to their campers either electronically or by mail. You can also leave correspondence when you drop her off at check-in.

How to email your camper: camps@girlscoutshs.org
Include the camper’s name and unit name in the subject line.

How to write to your camper:

My camper has special needs. Will she be successful at camp?

Many girls find that camp is a place where they are not judged for their differences, but embraced for their unique skills and traits. Girls do need to have a certain level of independence to attend some camp sessions.

We do offer the Elizabeth Gwin Special Session for campers who need more assistance.

If you have any questions, please contact Emilie Hutcheson, Director of Outdoor Leadership Experience at info@girlscoutshs.org, or 800.624.4185.

Do we need to get a physical exam?

No. Physical examinations are not required; however, we do require campers to fill out a Camper Health Form with a parent’s electronic signature two weeks before you and/or your daughter's session.

For 2023, we will require the health form to be sent prior to arrival.  Temperature checks will be taken upon arrival. Any camper exhibiting symptoms or testing with a HIGH temp, 100.4 or higher, will be asked to return home.

When is final payment due?

Final payment is due at least 2 weeks before scheduled arrival.   Please complete all transactions online as we will not be taking registration money upon arrival. If you need assistance with these transactions or have questions about your balance please contact Customer Care at 800.624.4185.

COVID Guidelines
Check-in and Check-out

The check-in procedure will be a drive through, with all stations located outside. We will ask for an online health form to be submitted 2 weeks prior to arrival, and temp checks to be taken upon arrival. Any camper exhibiting symptoms or testing with a HIGH temp, will be asked to return home.

Groups and Social Distancing

All campers will be placed in a tribe, and will rotate with their tribe for activities and meals during their stay at camp.

Masks

Masks are optional. Most activities are outside and provide adequate social distancing, therefore; masks are not required.

Protocols

In order to make this a safe and successful summer we are not only hiring an additional staff member as a safety officer to ensure sanitization and cleanliness, but all staff will be trained on these same guidelines. Campers will have similar conversations on handwashing and social distancing while at camp. We will have additional time slots set into the daily schedule for cleaning and sanitizing program areas, and for handwashing.

Quarantine

To maintain a healthy environment for our campers and staff, we ask that parents include one of the following in their child’s health record:

  • A negative COVID test result obtained within seven days of arriving at camp
  • A copy of their COVID Vaccination Card
  • Signed letter stating that the family has been quarantined from large group gatherings for at least 10 days prior to camp arrival
COVID at Camp

In the event that we have a camper with COVID symptoms during the camp session, we plan to quarantine the camper, call parents or guardians, and send the camper home. If a staff member is experiencing symptoms, that staff member will be sent home immediately. All tribes in contact with a suspected COVID patient, will be quarantined in their units.

Camp Cancellation

If CDC, state or local mandates prevent summer camp activities from occurring, families will receive a full refund.

Camp Menus

What's to eat?
Meals during Family Camp and Summer Resident Camp are kid-friendly and healthy. We prepare many dishes from scratch, which allows us to accommodate most common allergies and dietary restrictions. Most meals are served family-style in the camp dining hall.

Campers also enjoy campfire cookouts, where they’ll get to help plan and prepare the meals.

Typical meals include tacos, sandwich wraps, sloppy joes, and cheese quesadillas with tomato soup.

If you’re a picky eater, we’ve got you covered!

There’s always a salad bar and sandwich station available.

If your girl has a food allergy please let us know so we can ensure her meals are prepared properly.
