Council Patch Program

The Mining in Today's World Patch Program explores all areas of the mining industry and the impact mining has in today's world.

 As per Tyre L. Gray, Esq., president of the Nevada Mining Association:

“Americans born today will require more than three million pounds of mined materials in their lifetime. As new technologies continue to change the world, mining will produce the minerals needed to help shape our future. The Nevada Mining Association is thrilled to introduce Girl Scouts across the country to mining and to help create the next generation of leaders.”

The activities for the Mining in Today's World Patch Program are age-specific so that Daisies through Ambassadors can age-appropriately participate in this special opportunity! We thank the Nevada Mining Association for sponsoring this patch and giving Girl Scouts the opportunity to investigate mining in today's world.

Bees play an important role in both our ecosystem and food system that often goes unnoticed. In the What’s the Buzz About Bees Patch Program, girls will discover how bees pollinate, why bees are so vital to the health of our Earth, and how to make your own bee garden. Explore how beekeepers are helping save the bees and what you can do to help.

Thank you to The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Nevada for sponsoring this patch and giving Girl Scouts the opportunity to learn about the wild horses and burros that inhabit Nevada. This program explores how these animals live, what they eat, herd management, and much more.

Did you know that there are 115,000 men, women, and children waiting for lifesaving organ transplants? Even the largest football stadium in the United States couldn’t fit the number of patients on the national transplant waiting list.

In collaboration with Donor Network West and Donate Life, GSSN is proud to present the Donate Life Patch Program – a unique opportunity for Girl Scouts to explore how we can make a big difference in the lives of transplant patients through organ and tissue donation. Just one organ donor can save as many as eight lives! By the end of this program, Girl Scouts will gain knowledge about organ donation and feel ready to inspire their friends, families, and communities to donate life.

2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment which states, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

In celebration of this milestone anniversary, Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada invites you to learn more about the 19th Amendment, Women’s Suffrage, and 100 years of its impact on women and the American democratic process by completing the  Women’s Suffrage Centennial Patch Program.

The activities for this patch are age-specific so that Daisies through Ambassadors can age-appropriately participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Created by International Bipolar Foundation and adopted by Girl Scouts of the USA and other organizations around the globe, this program educates about the brain and its influence on thoughts, feelings, and behavior, which creates awareness and understanding of mental health. When we empower people with knowledge, we also break down the stigma, which leads to changed perceptions and being better equipped to reach out for help if needed. The support of mental health concerns before damaging impacts to the brain, stability, relationships, and self-worth occur, can be life changing.

Once you have completed each activity required use the form in the packet to submit your request for patches! 

You will be notified once your form has been received and patches are on their way.

Healthy at Home Patch Program

All across the country, many of us are having to stay home. With the Healthy at Home patch program, girls will learn how they can be helpful around the house, explore different ways to stay active (while incorporating social distancing), discover new (or old) ways to keep in touch with friends and relatives, acquire a new skill or hobby, and many more at-home activities.

Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to earn this fun but also important patch! View the patch requirements here.

Kindness Patch Program

Peace Begins At Home Patch Program

Domestic violence is defined as violent or aggressive behavior within the home. On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is reintroducing the Peace Begins at Home patch program. By completing this patch, girls will investigate what domestic violence is, discover where they can find resources about domestic violence, and explore how they can help others in domestic violence situations.

This patch was originally written in 2008 as a multi-agency collaboration and the activities included in it are still very relevant to our society today. We have updated the Appendix section of this patch program’s requirements to include up-to-date web sites, resources, and phone numbers.
