Girl Scouts organize Black Lives Matter vigil, rally in Morton Grove as their award project

Chicago Tribune

When it comes to fighting for justice and liberation, Girl Scouts are experts. Troop 40681 from Morton Grove, IL, for their Silver Award, decided to step up and advocate for the very pressing and long-lasting issue of racism in the United States.

To do this, the girls created an “action resource guide,” including steps on how to call for racial justice on the individual level, then hosted a Black Lives Matter demonstration in their community.

Girl Scout Melanie M., when speaking to the Chicago Tribune, noted: “If one person bands together with people, they can make a powerful movement. Our Girl Scouts today are showing that we can do something even though we are just young. We can make a difference.”
