How's the food?

At Camp Wasiu II, we provide healthy meals and snacks at camp prepared by our trained kitchen staff.

An example of a typical daily menu includes a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fruit, cold cereal, milk, and juice; a lunch of a taco bar, full salad bar and milk; and a supper of spaghetti, garlic bread, green beans, full salad bar, and dessert. A vegetarian option is available for every meal. Special diets (gluten-free, etc.) must be noted on the registration and Health History Form and may be accommodated on an individual basis with a four-week notification.

Meals are served buffet-style in the dining hall. Some meals may include cookouts, barbeques, or sack lunches.

How do I contact my camper?

You will be provided with contact information if you need to reach your camper in the event of an emergency. All camper contact goes through the Camp Director. You will be able to keep in touch with your camper through notes left with their counselor at check-in, through letters sent through the postal service, and through Bunk1.com.

Bunk1.com is a secure, easy to use, summer website service that lets you stay in touch with your camper through daily one-way email while your camper is at camp! You may also send mail through the Postal Service to your camper. Mailing address will be provided in the electronic confirmation letter from the Camp Director.

To ensure safety at camp, camp tours or visits are not available during any session or drop-off/pick-up. For a camp tour, please join us at our Camp Wasiu II Open House!

Who are the camp counselors?

Camp personnel are enthusiastic, talented, and caring adults who are selected based on their skills and experience, ability to serve as positive role models, and their genuine desire to work with children. Camp staff come from across the nation, as well as from around the world. Campers are introduced to different cultures and ideas in a safe, sharing, inquisitive, and inclusive camp environment.

All camp personnel receive extensive training prior to the arrival of campers. Training includes age-appropriate activity programming, outdoor skills, songs & games, team building, child development, diversity, handling homesickness, positive behavior management, and more. In addition, camp personnel are trained in safety and emergency procedures. Our health, waterfront, and food staff are all certified or licensed in accordance with local, state, and federal agencies (e.g. the American Camp Association, Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada, and Girl Scouts USA).

What can my camper purchase at camp?

Campers at Wasiu II will be able to shop in the camp Trading Post. Camp souvenirs generally range from $1 to $30 and include items such as sweatshirts, stuffed animals, jewelry, flashlights, water bottles, patches, and more. Trading Post deposits can be made ONLY at camper check-in using cash only. We will NOT be accepting credit cards or checks.

The Trading Post will be open during camper check-out for each session, and campers will have at least one opportunity to visit the Trading Post during their camp session. The Trading Post will NOT be open for purchases during camper check-in. Any Trading Post funds remaining from the initial deposit will be returned to the camper's parent or guardian during camper check-out at the end of the camp session.

When do I receive my confirmation letter?

We will send out a general camp confirmation letter at the start of each month, as well as a reminder email after the registration for your program closes. These letters will include all required camper forms, general information about Camp Wasiu II, and the camper packing list. Please make sure to check your email and read through all the important information shared in the confirmation letter!

What forms are required?

Please download the Camp Wasiu II Parent and Family Handbook to find all required forms. These documents must be completed for all campers and presented at check-in on the first day of camp.

All campers must have:

  • Completed GSSN Transportation Release
  • Completed GSSN Camp Health History Form

Tell me about health & safety at camp.

Health and safety are the number one priorities of every camp staff member. All camp personnel receive extensive training prior to the arrival of campers, including American Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification. Camp personnel are also trained in site-specific emergency procedures. Our facility is required to pass annual health inspections and is licensed by the state.

Additionally, Camp Wasiu II is proudly accredited by the American Camp Association. This means that camp complies with 300 industry-established standards in health, safety, and program.

Do you offer volunteer opportunities at camp?

We have numerous volunteer opportunities for girls, adults, families, and friends to help at Camp Wasiu II. For more information, contact us at girlscoutshelp@gssn.org or 775.322.0642.

Camp Wasiu II Opening Weekend
Each year, we need volunteers to help open Camp Wasiu II and prepare it for a busy summer! Any individuals interested in helping with our labor tasks are welcome, and we especially love folks who have carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, or painting skills. All meals and accommodations are provided. More than 1,000 local youth will directly benefit from YOUR hard work and dedication!

Camp Wasiu II Closing Weekend
As with Camp Opening, we need help to close Camp Wasiu II and prepare it for the fall and winter seasons! This is a great volunteer opportunity, especially for our older girl troops.

Host Families for Camp Staff
Would you like to host an international or long-distance American camp staff member in your home this summer? We’re looking for families to welcome camp staff in their homes for lengths of time ranging between a weekend and two weeks!

Families can host staff members before and after camp as well as during time off. As an approved host family, you will be asked to make contact with your camp staff members prior to arrival. This is your opportunity to tell them about your family and find out about them ahead of time. You may also ask them for a picture of themselves to make identifying them at the airport a bit easier. Your family will provide a safe and comfortable place for the staff to stay at your home. (A couch, air mattress, futon, or bed will be just fine.) Host families also prepare some meals for our camp staff members while they are at the home.
