Black History Patch Program – D, B, J,
C, S, A
It is important to learn about different cultures. The purpose of
the Black History Patch is to learn more about the history and culture
of African American people. In 1926, Woodson proposed and launched the
annual February observance of “Negro History Week,” which became
“Black History Month” in 1976. It is said that he chose February for
the observance because February 12th was Abraham Lincoln’s birthday
and February 14th was the accepted birthday of Frederick Douglass.
Cost: $2.75, Patches are available for purchase through the GSWCF

Hispanic Heritage Month – D, B, J, C, S, A
During Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15), we
celebrate the countless contributions that Hispanic people and Latinos
have made and continue to make in the United States. We honor the
cultural richness of all people in the U.S. whose ancestors came from
Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Girls and
leaders have plenty of activities to choose from to earn this Fun
Patch. And regardless of their specific ethnic heritage, they’re sure
to learn interesting new things.
Cost: $1.50, Patches are available for purchase through the GSWCF Store.
Multicultural Patch Program – D, B, J,
C, S, A
The Multicultural Patch Program helps girls to discover new
cultures while debunking stereotypes and celebrating the uniqueness of
cultures around the world. Culture is the word we use to identify the
behaviors and traditions certain groups of people share like recipes,
traditions, language, music, clothing, and art. When we do not share
somebody’s culture, it seems strange to us, but it is important to
remember we share a lot more in common than we have in than what we
are different.
Cost: $2.75, Patches are available for purchase through the GSWCF
Store.
