Girl Scouts and Faith

Girl Scouts has always provided many opportunities for girls to grow in their respective religious faiths and each girl is encouraged to develop her own strong values within the context of family, faith and the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

The My Promise, My Faith pin is an award found within each grade level’s edition of  Girl’s Guide to Girl ScoutingEarning this award helps girls explore how Girl Scouting and their faith offer similar ideas about how to interact with the world around them—and how Girl Scouting can tie into their faiths.

My Promise, My Faith

Girl Scouts encourages girls to grow their faith and is based on the Girl Scout Promise and Law, which includes many of the principles and values common to most faiths. Although a secular organization, Girl Scouts has, since the movement began, encouraged girls to explore their spirituality by earning the My Promise, My Faith pin.

Throughout this journey, girls open up conversations with women in their religious community, research inspiring quotes that resonate with the part of the Girl Scout Law on which they have chosen to focus, and create a work of art to express what they’ve learned with their friends, family, and possibly even the larger community. Girls of all grade levels are eligible once each year to earn the My Promise, My Faith pin.

Religious Recognitions

Religious recognitions are created by national religious organizations/committees to encourage the spiritual growth of their youth members and reinforce many of the values integral to Girl Scouting. While My Promise, My Faith helps girls connect Girl Scouting with their faith, the religious recognitions programs help girls grow stronger in and learn more specifically about their faith.
