Girl Scouts is for Every Girl

Be a Girl Scout.

Girl Scouts are always up for new experiences.

Build a habitat for baby animals or dive into the world of robotics. Clean up a local park or design your own garden. Meet new friends and develop new skills.

As a Girl Scout, you’ll have the chance to explore the world around you, have a blast, and—most importantly—find the space to be truly, totally yourself.

Plus, 2024 is our council’s 100th anniversary, and you’ll want to be a part of the exciting events we have planned!

Don’t miss your chance to grow, learn, and laugh with a supportive crew at your side.

*Girl Scout membership must be renewed annually. Membership year is October 1–September 30.

What do Girl Scouts do?

Anything they set their minds to.

She’s doing more than navigating a rocky trail; she’s learning to problem solve and take a closer look at the world around her.

She’s not just selling a box of Thin Mints; she’s gaining the confidence to pitch the first investor in her small business.

And the giggles she shares with her fellow troop members? She’s building a support squad that will boost her mood and have her soaring above peer pressure or tough times in school.

Everything Girl Scouts do builds their curiosity, kindness, and can-do spirit. And as they earn badges, help their community, and deepen their friendships, they’ll also have a blast along the way. It’s what Girl Scouting is all about.

Girl Scout Membership Questions

What is Girl Scouts?
Girl Scouts is more than an activity—it’s a Movement dedicated to building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

Why do girls love being Girl Scouts?
Girl Scouts is a way of life that brings out the best in your girl, even in the most challenging of times. While they’re learning about STEM, the outdoors, entrepreneurship, and important life skills, Girl Scouts are also discovering new ways to make their family and community stronger, kinder, and better for everyone.

How does it work? What’s a “troop”?
Groups of Girl Scouts, called troops, typically meet weekly or every other week for an hour or two. Guided by adult volunteers, troop members choose the hands-on activities and projects that excite them, try new things, and cheer each other on. Together, they earn badges to reflect their successes and show the world what they’re made of.

What’s the goal?
Making sure girls see and have opportunities to reach their potential isn’t just about helping them earn better grades, make better decisions, and lead happier lives (though it helps with those things too!). It’s about creating a more fair, equal, and compassionate world where every girl has a seat at the table and can make her dreams come true. Check out our values in the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

When can I get started?
If your girl is ready to let her best self shine and start creating the world she wants to see, she’s ready to be a Girl Scout today.

How much does it cost to join Girl Scouts?
A Girl Scout membership is $25—plus any applicable council fees. A typical Girl Scout year begins October 1, and the fun keeps going through May. Of course, we don’t want fees to be a barrier, so please reach out to us about financial aid assistance.

What are the membership requirements for girls?
Membership in Girl Scouts is granted to any girl who:

  • is currently enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade;
  • has made the Girl Scout Promise and accepted the Girl Scout Law;
  • has paid annual or other applicable membership dues.

What are the membership requirements for adults?
Membership in Girl Scouts is granted to any adult who:

  • is at least 18 years old OR is a high school graduate (or equivalent);
  • accepts the principles and beliefs as stated in the preamble of the Girl Scout
  • Constitution; and
  • has paid annual, lifetime, or other applicable membership dues.

When will I get placed in a troop?
Girls who become members and participate in a troop that is already formed, meaning it has the minimum required number of girls and volunteers, can likely start meeting as soon as the next troop meeting. If the troop is newly formed, there may be a short waiting period for the troop leader to complete orientation.

Will I hear from my troop leader?
If a girl joined an existing troop, her troop leader will likely reach out within 48 business hours by phone or email. Caregivers have access to the troop meeting details and troop leaders’ contact information in MyAccount under MyTroops.

How do I register as a troop leader?
When looking to become a troop leader please follow the prompts for adult membership and select a troop that has open positions for Troop Leaders.

What about safety?
Safety is a top priority for Girl Scouts. All activities are supervised, and we provide our volunteers with top-notch training and program resources. We also follow comprehensive safety guidelines as well as require all volunteers to have an up-to-date background check on file.
