Membership Manager - Greater Memphis Area

Our Membership Managers serve as part of the team responsible for girl and adult membership development and retention in their assigned geographic regions, as well as providing resources, support, and direction to volunteers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in achieving the council’s corporate goals for girl and adult membership growth through:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience
  • Planning and initiating innovative membership recruitment and retention efforts to meet and exceed girl and adult membership goals in assigned areas
  • Implementing renewal/retention campaigns and processes that may include lapsed member, individual, troop, and family memberships
  • Analyzing statistical data for girl and adult membership to develop methods for recruitment, retention and expansion opportunities
  • Facilitating and working with service unit managers and other volunteers to provide direction for and support the recruitment and effective management of service teams
  • Directing, evaluating, developing and motivating volunteers, helping to resolve conflicts, and ensuring council resources are appropriately managed
  • Developing trust and credibility with volunteers and community partners by following through on projects and tasks in a timely manner
  • Developing, coordinating, and implementing plans that assist volunteers in delivering a consistent, effective, high-quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls, parents, and other volunteers
  • Being well-versed in and knowledgeable about the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, Girl Scout ways & traditions, and all other Girl Scout resources
  • Ensuring volunteers obtain required training and recommend additional learning opportunities that align with volunteer interests
  • Serving as Council liaison to all volunteers in assigned jurisdiction
  • Providing input on and following up on the appointment, release, & reassignment of volunteers annually
  • Participating in service unit meetings a minimum of 3 to 4 times a year, or as requested
  • Attending troop meetings as requested and/or needed
  • Optimizing the use of technology in providing support for volunteers
  • Ensuring Girl Scouts is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scouts message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council
  • Interpreting and ensuring compliance with all GSUSA and Heart of the South policies, safety standards and policies and procedures
  • Promoting Girl Scouts and expanding the base of community support through networking, and building community partnerships
  • Cultivating interest and support of key community leaders, institutions, schools, and businesses
  • Remaining informed of the activities of other departments and effectively communicating changes and updates
  • Representing the Girl Scouts Heart of the South in community activities and initiatives
  • Works with cross-functional teams to determine or develop innovative techniques to ensure the effective deployment of support services
  • Promote and assist with Council-wide programs, activities, events, public relations and/or fund development endeavors as need

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in community organizing, volunteer management, sales and marketing
  • 1 - 2 years of proven experience in volunteer management and leadership
  • Experience with customer service management systems (CRM) a plus but not required

Outreach and Program Specialist - West Tennessee (Jackson) Area

The Girl Scout Outreach & Program Specialist must facilitate strong, relevant, well-executed outcomes-based programs that assist in membership extension, membership retention and developing girls’ leadership skills.  Provide leadership and direction in the delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership program to girl members and volunteers in specific interest-based areas.  Cultivate community partnerships and volunteer relationships.   Promote Girl Scouts Heart of the South through council-sponsored events and activities. Advance the Girl Scouts Heart of the South’s commitment to diversity through council-wide events and programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, facilitate, coordinate, and assist in Girl Scout program implementation on the council and local level and in partnership with schools, churches, and other youth serving organizations for the purpose of building character, developing skills, and growing girl leadership potential.
  • Provide Girl Scout direct service programming through Community Troop initiatives
  • Maintain current knowledge about troop activities, girl interests, and the needs of the un-served/underserved populations
  • Implement innovative plan for community Troop program delivery
  • Maintains the necessary records and reports of programs, events, and activities for monthly management and yearly analysis.
  • Assist in STEM-based program for the council in the Possibility Place.
  • Cultivate the development of program enrichment opportunities in designated areas.
  • Increase knowledge, awareness, and support of Girl Scouting by participating in community activities and initiatives and by seeking out and involving groups and individuals who share our commitment to helping girls lead with courage, confidence, and character
  • Facilitate and coordinate weekly or monthly programs at schools, churches, or community centers for the purpose of increasing membership and developing girl leadership.

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Spanish is a plus, but not a requirement.

 

Outdoor Program Director

The Outdoor Program Director is accountable for providing overall leadership and direction for the design, development, and delivery of council-wide outdoor programs, including summer resident camp. She/He will be responsible for the development of Girl Scout Outdoor program resources that address the needs and interests of Girl Scout members and attract non-members to the organization.  She/He will be responsible for furthering the mission of the council’s camp properties through the development and management of program, property development, marketing, and strategic operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements council-wide outdoor programs and resources to meet the needs of girl members.
  • Plans marketing strategies to ensure the increased participation of Girl Scouts, non-members, and user groups in council sponsored programs and properties.
  • Develops and directs the work of the outdoor program function to ensure safe and high-quality programs are offered.  Ensures that programs are cost effective and maximizes the use of council-owed sites.
  • Develops integrated objectives, action steps and budgets to manage property development and maintenance needs to ensure stewardship or council resources.
  • Ensures support systems for volunteers providing outdoor programs or training are in place.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate camp program that meets the needs and interests of the target populations, and ensure their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the summer resident camp including food service, program, business, camper and staff supervision, and health care.

Qualified candidate must be proficient in computer skills including Google Documents, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet capabilities.  Must have previous supervisory experience.
