AMERICAN AIRLINES HOSTS GIRL SCOUTS–ARIZONA CACTUS-PINE COUNCIL AT PHOENIX SKY HARBOR AIRPORT FOR A BEHIND-THE-SCENES TOUR

On Saturday, Sept. 21, American Airlines hosted over 40 local Girl Scouts from the Arizona Cactus-Pine Council (GSACPC), at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport for a behind the scenes tour of the airport and operations. Girl Scout alum and current Mayor of Phoenix, Kate Gallego and an all-female flight crew, greeted the girls as they began their day at the American Airlines Line Maintenance Hangar.

The girls were given the rare opportunity to see inside an aircraft cockpit, see an engine under construction and were introduced to female leaders in flight service, flight, maintenance, baggage and more.

“These behind-the-scenes tours and exposure to female leaders give our younger generation hands-on experience and the confidence to look at the historically male-dominated career opportunities offered in our industry,” said American Airlines Regional Sales Director Elizabeth Pond. “Our team members are also building lasting relationships with the professional women of our future.”

“We’re grateful for our partnership with American Airlines and their team members’ enthusiasm for investing time and talent into Arizona’s young women and girls,” said GSACPC Program Manager Amanda Hofmann-Handy. “From learning about the mechanics of a plane to gleaning inspiration from female role models, the American Airlines patch program was an outstanding Girl Scouting experience. Providing exceptional program experiences is vital to leadership development and intended for girls to see firsthand that anything is possible, to build a wealth of knowledge and ultimately confidence and excitement for their futures.”

At the end of the tour, each Girl Scout received a specially designed badge to commemorate the experience.
