Tell us why you invest the time and effort into being a Troop Leader?

I believe that the Girl Scout program is the best way to empower girls. I want to use my time in a way that will be the most productive and change as many lives as possible.

Do you have a camp name? If yes, what is it and what is the story behind it?

Smiley–when I was young, people could not tell if I was smirking or smiling. When they saw me coming they would say loudly, "hey smiley." Even though I never said anything about that name, it followed me all my life!

Thinking about your outdoor adventures in Girl Scouts, what is your favorite outdoor experience as a Troop Leader and why?

Being at camp! I loved the interactions with the outdoors, the members there, the activities, and most of all, learning and teaching.

What is the most inspiring moment you have experienced as a Troop Leader?

Finding out that one of our troops most trying girls fell in love with flying and airplanes, and that as an adult, she worked at Sky Harbor Airport in the Control Tower! And now she’s working toward becoming a pilot. <3

What has been your proudest moment as a Troop Leader?

Watching the girls create a community quilt out of fabrics they found important to them. It was a demonstration of the leadership practice of reflection, and it was special to witness the pride they felt when they completed the project!

What advice would you give other Troop Leaders?

Be patient, listen to the girls, learn to deal with their personal obstacles and provide each girl with what they need to succeed.
