Tell us why you invest the time and effort in being a Troop Leader?
I invest my time because I believe in the program! I have seen firsthand what a difference being a Girl Scout can make in the life of a girl. It is important to me to offer that experience to the girls of my troop and neighborhood.
Do you have a camp name? If yes, what is it and what is the story behind it?
I do have a camp name given to me by my daughters. It is Tie Dye because I like all things colorful and I may just own several shirts that are tie-dyed.
Thinking about your outdoor adventures in Girl Scouts, what is your favorite outdoor experience as a Troop Leader and why?
My favorite outdoor experience as a leader is when I took my troop to Camp Surf in San Diego last summer. We camped on the beach and enjoyed many activities that were new to all the girls. It was a weekend of firsts for the girls and adults who participated.
What is the most inspiring moment you have experienced as a Troop Leader?
Some of the most inspiring moments I have experienced as a Troop Leader have been at our neighborhood encampments. Watching the girls experience canoeing or archery for the first time or bravely taking that next step to go down the zip line although they were terrified. I am honored to have the privilege of being there with them as they do new activities and show how brave they truly are.
What has been your proudest moment as a Troop Leader?
The girls in my troop make me proud every day, I do not have just one moment. As I watch how they are growing into individuals that are strong, confident and making a difference in our world I am filled with pride from head-to-toe.
How do you balance the demands of being a Troop Leader?
I have an awesome co-leader and parents that share my enthusiasm for the program and are always willing to help bring our girls awesome experiences. I have to rely on my family and team members to help with the balance.
What goals and projects are you currently working on?
We are currently working on our Bronze Award projects for the Juniors. They are in the planning stage. The Cadettes are working on badge work for this year and thinking about earning their Silver Awards.
What advice would you give other Troop Leaders?
You are not alone! There are many people that can and will help you on your Girl Scout journey.
What do you wish someone had told you as a new Troop Leader?
I wish someone would have told me more about the resources that were available to help with planning and badge work.
If you were a Girl Scout Cookie, what would it be and why?
Believe it or not, this was the hardest question for me. I finally decided that I am a Do-si-do cookie by Little Brownie Bakers description of the cookie - Do-si-dos® are easy-going, trustworthy, and friendly. These are all qualities that I would use to describe myself!
