Program Ideas and Adaptations for Daisies

Daisies earn two petals by making a mural based on two stories. 

With you by their side, your Daisies will make new friends and grow their sense of wonder this troop year! Spark their imagination with these fun and easy badges and activities, adapted for both virtual or safe in-person meetings. We’ll be adding content throughout the year, so bookmark this page and check back often!

How to use these resources:
Daisy Intro Meeting

Welcome parents and caregivers, as girls earn the Daisy Promise Center.

PURPOSE:

Daisies earn the Promise Center by saying the Girl Scout Promise and talking about what it means to them in this meeting.

PLAN YOUR MEETING:

  • Video demonstration: Help girls learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
 
Good Neighbor Badge

Daisies find out how they can help their communities by being a good neighbor.

PURPOSE:

When girls have earned this badge, they'll know more about the communities they belong to and how the people in their communities work together to be good neighbors. 

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Explore your school
2. Discover your city or town
3. See what makes your state special

Zinni and Sunny Petals

Daisies earn two petals by making a mural based on two stories.

PURPOSE:

When they've earned their Zinni & Sunny petals, Daisies will know how to be considerate and caring, just like Zinni the Zinnia, as well as friendly and helpful like Sunny the Sunflower.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Talk about "Zinni's Story" and “Sunny’s Story”
2. Come up with ideas of how to be like Zinni
3. Make a mural based on "Sunny's Story" with your Daisy friends
4. Practice being considerate and caring
5. Practice being friendly and helpful

Toy Business Designer Badge

Daisies will have some fun getting into the toy business.

PURPOSE:

When they’ve earned this badge, Daisies will have come up with an idea for a toy, designed it, made it better, and shared it—just like an entrepreneur! 

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Come up with an idea for a toy 
2. Make your idea even better 
3. Pitch your idea

Space Science Explorer Badge

Daisies explore and observe the sky like real space scientists.

PURPOSE:  

When girls have earned this badge, they’ll have explored and observed the Sun, Moon, and stars.

Count it Up Leaf

Daisies learn how much coins and bills are worth.

PURPOSE:

 When girls have earned this badge, they’ll know how their cookie money adds up. 

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Find out what cookies cost 
2. Learn about different kinds of cookies
3. Set a sales goal

Money Counts Leaf

Daisies find out about money, including how they can use it to buy things and how they can use it to help other people too.  

PURPOSE:

When girls have earned this badge, they’ll know more about money and what it's worth.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Understand different kinds of coins
2. Know more about paper money
3. Find out the cost of fun

Think Like An Engineer Journey

Daisies find out how engineers use Design Thinking to solve problems and plan a Take Action project that helps others.

PURPOSE:

When girls have earned this award, they’ll know how engineers use Design Thinking to solve problems.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Find out how engineers use Design Thinking to solve problems.
2. Do three hands-on design challenges: design and build a fairy house, a car powered by air, and a way to get across a canyon.
3. Plan a Take Action project that helps others. If you're a Girl Scout volunteer, go to Volunteer Toolkit for complete meeting plans and activity instructions.

World Thinking Day Award

Every year, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world celebrate February 22 as a day of international friendship called World Thinking Day. The 2021 theme for World Thinking Day is "Peacebuilding." To earn this award, Daisies will explore the theme’s meaning and make a peace pledge to make a difference.

PURPOSE:

 When girls have earned this badge, they’ll understand what peacebuilding means and will have made a peace pledge for World Thinking Day.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Explore World Thinking Day
  2. Find out what peacebuilding means
  3. Explore peacebuilding in Girl Scouts
  4. Get inspired by peacebuilding
  5. Create a peace pledge

PLAN YOUR MEETING​

Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey

Daisies learn how scientists use observation to understand the world as they collect and analyze data as part of a citizen science project.

PURPOSE: 

When girls have earned this award, they will have sharpened their observation and data collection skills through three citizen science activities. Daisies will also have put their skills into practice through a Take Action project.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Find out how citizen scientists make observations, collect data, and work with scientists to receive feedback on research
  2. Do three citizen science activities: sharpen observation skills through two observation games and a SciStarter project
  3. Plan a Take Action project that helps others

  • Patch Opportunity: The Girl Scout Tree Promise
  • Awesome Girls: Protect the Planet Event: Check out this exciting, hands-on event with three environmental scientists from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)! You’ll do fun activities that will help you earn the Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey, and every girl who registers to view this event (either live or recorded) will be able to receive a free EPA patch!

Tula Petal

Daisies earn petals and leaves to make their Daisy flowers. The Tula petal is one of ten petals they can earn.

PURPOSE: 

When girls have earned this petal, they’ll know how to be courageous and strong, just like Tula the Tulip. 

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Talk about “Tula’s Story” 
  2. Make an art gallery celebrating women who are courageous and strong
  3. Practice being courageous and strong

When girls have earned this petal, they’ll know how to make the world a better place, just like Rosie the Rose. 

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Talk about “Rosie’s Story”
  2. Act out the story with your Daisy friends
  3. Practice making the world a better place  

PLAN YOUR MEETING​

  • Special Guest: In this  Small But Mighty Storytime, Dory Lerner, a National Civil Rights Museum K–12 educator reads The Youngest Marcher: The Story of Audrey Faye Hendricks, a Young Civil Rights Activist, written by Cynthia Levinson and illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton. Girls will learn how young people protested segregation during the 1963 Birmingham Children’s March. They will discuss ways girls can take action to create positive change today and make protest signs to share their ideas about change making with the world!

Outdoor Art Maker Badge

Daisies explore the outdoors and use what they see and hear to make different kinds of art projects.
