About the VISTA Project

The goal of the Girl Scouts GCNWI Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) project is to engage capacity-building AmeriCorps members that will serve girls in low-income and underserved communities. 

AmeriCorps members will be tasked with implementing a targeted recruitment process that yields a diverse and inclusive population of girls and troop leaders and will develop systems and policies that sustain GCNWI's mission of serving ALL girls.

Available VISTA Opportunities

Marketing VISTA

The Marketing Coordinator VISTA will be responsible for developing a marketing and communications campaign that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to girls in low-income communities.

Recruitment VISTA

The Recruitment Coordinator VISTA will be responsible for defining a recruitment process for girls and troop leaders in the Hope Manor II community. The Recruitment Coordinator VISTA will conduct volunteer related research, assist GCNWI recruitment teams with electronic methods of sourcing qualified volunteer troop leaders, create customized screening and initial contact for volunteers, develop a retention plan, identify potential Gold Award Girl Scouts, participate in recruitment related events, and create a communication calendar for troop leaders.

Research and Evaluation VISTA

The Research and Evaluation Coordinator VISTA will be responsible for presenting a different outlook for DEI troops while creating an evaluation plan using current Girl Scout processes and curriculum. 

Fundraising VISTA

The Fundraising Coordinator VISTA will be responsible for creating a fundraising manual associated with raising funds and collecting donations for Hope Manor II Girl Scouts. The Fundraising Coordinator will contribute to bringing awareness to the troops’ needs-creating opportunities for the troop to fund themselves during their first and second year.

About the position

The AmeriCorps members in the Girl Scouts GCNWI VISTA project will assist the GCNWI Mission Delivery department with serving Volunteers of America Illinois (VOAI). 

AmeriCorps members will focus on capacity building needs for the Englewood V.O.A.I Hope Manor II community troop for low-income youth. 

Girls will learn socio-emotional learning (SEL) and trauma behavior tools, and build skills in STEM education, healthy living, and financial literacy through our Girl Scout Cookie Project.

This service position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions.

Who We’re Looking For:

Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who is passionate about advocating for girls. They are familiar with further developing a start-up project, are enthusiastic towards helping families and girls rise out of poverty with a systems-level focus and understands how an individual’s social environment can impact their possibilities and choices. 

We are seeking someone who has experience working and collaborating with diverse populations, is capable of synthesizing information and requirements from multiple data sources and can maintain and improve multiple areas such as marketing, recruitment, fundraising, and project research/evaluation.
