Girl Scouts and Faith

Everything in Girl Scouting is based on the Girl Scout Promise and Law, which includes many of the principles and values common to most faiths. So, while we’re a secular organization, Girl Scouts has encouraged girls to take spiritual journeys via their faiths' religious recognitions since we were founded in 1912.

Girl Scout Week

Girl Scout Week begins and ends with Girl Scouts celebrating their faith, on Girl Scout Sunday, Girl Scout Jummah, or Girl Scout Sabbath. Here are the 2021 resources for troops and for the houses of worship where they meet, or where their members worship. Girl Scouts Celebrate Faith

Faith is at the heart of Girl Scouting. As part of the Girl Scout Promise, Girl Scouts pledge to “serve God” (members may substitute for the word “God” in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs) and to “help people at all times.”

Today we lift up these shared values for Girl Scout [SUNDAY/SABBATH/JUMMAH/GIRL SCOUTS CELEBRATE FAITH], an inspiring tradition where girls explore the powerful connections between their faith and Girl Scouting. [YOU CAN PROVIDE DESCRIPTION OF EXISTING RELATIONSHIP WITH HOUSE OF WORSHIP, IF APPLICABLE]

Girl Scouts have endless opportunities to discover and nurture their interests, connect with others, and take action to better the world around them, all while strengthening their connection to their faith.

When girls are deeply rooted in their faith, they grow into compassionate leaders who inspire positive change in their communities. Girl Scouts at [NAME OF HOUSE OF WORSHIP]—and across the world—are finding ways to share their love and compassion to make the world a better place—not just this week, but all year long.

We are so grateful to everyone at [NAME OF HOUSE OF WORSHIP] for supporting Girl Scouts and fostering a place where girls can grow together in leadership and faith. Thank you!

My Promise, My Faith
Girls of all grade levels can earn the My Promise, My Faith pin developed by Girl Scouts of the USA. This pin, which girls can earn once a year, complements existing religious recognitions and allows all girls to further strengthen the connection between their faith and Girl Scouts. Faith Emblem Instruction at Home
Are you looking for awards to complete on your as part of your Girl Scouting experience? In support of Protestant youth, Programs of Religious Activities With Youth (P.R.A.Y.), have developed additional resources for families and youth to aid in completion of religious emblems at home and foster their faith formation during this time of social distancing. Learn more.

Religious Recognitions
Religious recognitions are created by national religious organizations/committees to encourage the spiritual growth of their youth members and reinforce many of the values integral to Girl Scouting. While My Promise, My Faith helps girls connect Girl Scouting with their faith, the religious recognitions programs help girls grow stronger in and learn more specifically about their faith. Girl Scouts of the USA partners with P.R.A.Y. (Programs of Religious Activities with Youth) as a resource for Faith based programs. Learn more.
