Adults Renewing Your Household Instructions

Household Renewal Information:

Primary Caregivers of a household are able to renew adult and girl memberships as well as add new girl and adult memberships to the household at any time.
During renewal season (April 1–⁠September 30), new renewal options and rewards are available. Make sure to renew during this time period to ensure your Girl Scout troop memberships stay current and active. This will also qualify you for the exclusive early bird renewal incentives.

Troop Leaders Renewing Your Troop Instructions

Troop Renewal Information:

During renewal season (April 1–September 30), troop leaders can renew troop members for the next membership year. Make sure to renew during this time period to make sure your Girl Scout troop memberships stay current and active.
As a troop leader you are unable to request financial aid for the renewal of someone outside of your immediate household. If a member of your troop wishes to renew with financial assistance, they will need to renew online themselves or contact us for help.
Troop leaders who are planning to renew their troop’s memberships have until September 30, 2022 (the last day of the 2021-2022 Girl Scout membership year). After that date, families will need to renew their girl’s membership individually.
Many troops choose to use troop funds to pay for their annual memberships for both girl and adult troop members. This is not only okay—it’s encouraged! It's encouraged to ensure all girls can continue, honor all families' contributions to the troop's success, and ensure all girls get the same renewal benefits to enjoy together.

Registration and Renewal FAQs

Who can renew?

Adults can renew themselves and members of their household. Troop leaders can renew themselves and members of their troop.

How much does it cost to renew my membership?

Annual Girl Membership: $40*
Annual Adult Membership: $25
(Annual membership registration/renewal is valid from Oct 1, 2022 - Sep 30, 2023).

*The Annual Girl Membership renewal includes a $15 council service fee which stays within our council to support programs, properties, and camps.

As an alternative to using your family funds, you can pay for our already low membership costs using your GSNorCal funds if your daughter chooses to use her Product Program reward card, agreeing with your troop to use troop funds, or requesting financial aid. Upgrade to a Lifetime Membership and save!

When you renew, become a lifetime member for the one-time fee of $400 (or $200 discounted rate for those who qualify) and never pay for your annual membership again!

Young Alum (ages 18-29): $200
Adults (10+ years in GS): $200
Adult (ages 30+, under 10 years in GS): $400

Graduating Ambassador Girl Scouts can use their Product Program Reward Cards to purchase Young Alum Lifetime Membership.

How do graduating Ambassadors renew as adult members?

12th grade Girl Scout Ambassadors can be renewed by their caregiver in MyGS. They will be given the option to purchase an adult annual membership or a Young Alum Lifetime Membership. Additional details about Young Alum Lifetime Memberships are sent to graduating seniors in the spring.

How do I renew, add, or remove my volunteer roles?

Renew Volunteer Roles:

Login to your MyGS account.
- Troop Leaders can renew adult roles from My Troops tab and
- Adults can renew their own volunteer roles through My Household Tab.
When renewing memberships, make sure either Select All or check the boxes in order to renew:
1. your membership
2. your troop affiliation
3. all volunteer roles you wish to keep/renew for next year by checking the box next to each role you wish to renew. Do not check the box for roles you do not wish to renew.

To Add a New Volunteer Role:

From your MyGS Account, under My Household, go to the adult member you want to add a role to and click Add a new role
Select the adult role you wish to add
Follow the prompts to add the volunteer role to your membership account.

To Remove a Volunteer Role:

Click Edit Details
Select Remove next to the volunteer role you wish to remove. Be careful not to remove your Troop affiliation by mistake. Note: You will only be able to remove current roles. Lapsed/non-renewed roles that you have previously held will display as lapsed.

How do I use Product Program Reward Cards to renew memberships?

You can now use your Product Program Reward Cards to renew your girl and adult memberships. Follow these step-by-step instructions for help Purchasing Membership with your Product Program Reward Card.

You will need the 19 digit number from your reward card email or the back of a physical Reward Card to submit payment. You must have at least the full amount due on the Product Program Reward Card balance. If there are insufficient funds on your Product Program Reward Card, your Reward Card will not be accepted. You can check your Product Program Reward Card balance by going to https://www.storecard.com/ and entering in your CVV# and BID# provided in your Reward Card email.

If you do not have enough funds on the reward card, are using multiple reward cards, or need additional help, contact our Member Services team at info@gsnorcal.org or call 1-800-447-4475, ext. 0, M-F 9am -5pm.

To make renewal easier for you, we've included the option to Purchase Memberships using your Product Program Reward Card to:

Renew up to four girl memberships and two adult memberships
Purchase new memberships for another sibling or adult in your family

When Spring Renewal starts on April 1, you will also be able to purchase the following memberships with Product Program Reward Cards:

Graduating Ambassadors can also purchase an annual adult membership with their Product Program Reward Card for $25 for themselves.
Graduating Ambassadors can purchase a Young Alum Lifetime Membership at a discounted rate (50%) of $200

How do I request financial assistance?

Who Can Receive Financial Assistance?

No-Questions-Asked Financial assistance is available for both girl and adult volunteer memberships.

Who Can Request Financial Assistance?

Only Primary Caregivers can request financial assistance for their adult membership or for their girl(s) membership. Troop Leaders are unable to request financial assistance for girls in their troop, it must be done by the girl's parent/caregiver.

Where/How Do I Request Financial Assistance for Memberships?

Girl - Financial Assistance:

Adult primary caregivers can request financial assistance for their girl when purchasing or renewing memberships through the "My Household" tab in your MyGS Account Portal.
As you proceed through the renewal steps, just check the financial aid checkbox when you are checking out/purchasing memberships.
Once GSNorCal reviews and approves your request you will be all set to enjoy another year of Girl Scouts!

Adult - Financial Assistance:

Adults may request financial assistance using the Adult Membership Financial Aid Request Form.
Adults will not have the option to request financial assistance through MyGS, you will need to use the above form instead.
Once GSNorCal reviews and approves your request you will be all set to enjoy another year of Girl Scouts!

How do I renew my background check?

All members who want to volunteer in the following roles troop leader, assistant troop leader, troop treasurer, fall product program manager, cookie program manager, troop helper, or service unit leadership volunteer must have a current background check and are required to complete a new one every three years. Your background check will expire three years from the date of your last background check.

An email notifying you that your background check will expire will be sent 90, 60, 30, and 15 days prior to your expiration date. This email will come from theadvoates@sterlingvolunteers.com and will include instructions to complete. Please complete the application within 72 hours of receiving the email.

Electronic background check fees run approximately $11.75 (can vary by county). Financial aid is available and is listed as an option when you are completing the application from Sterling Volunteers.

How do I receive my renewal incentives?

Early Bird Renewal patches will be available from your local service units in the fall. Make New Friends’ patch will be mailed directly to girls that earned them in early Fall.

For adults that have requested the early bird renewal patch those will be mailed directly.

Lifetime Membership FAQs

If I am a Lifetime Member, why do I need to renew?

Lifetime members do not need to renew their membership. However, all lifetime members are asked to log in to their MyGS account during Early Bird and renew any volunteer roles they might currently hold.

Are you a troop leader AND a lifetime member? Just a reminder that while you don't need to renew your membership, you can:

Renew girl and adults members in your troop
Renew any adult roles
Update your troop meeting information
Check for background check expiration dates for yourself and other adults - contact info@gsnorcal.org with questions about renewing your background check.

How Do I purchase LIfetime Membership?

  - Select Purchase Lifetime Membership for the person in your household or you can select this option at checkout when renewing.
  - Follow the prompts to complete and pay for your Lifetime membership.
  - If your age (18-29) indicates you are a Young Alum or your years in Girl Scouts (10+) qualifies you for the 50% discounted Lifetime membership rate, you will be prompted with this option on the choose payment type section during your membership renewal.

- With Product Program Reward Card
  - Use Product Program Reward Card to purchase Young Alum Lifetime Membership Form
Troop Leaders
Troop Leaders can purchase Lifetime memberships for graduating Ambassador Girl Scouts using troop funds if all girls agree.
- Login to your MyGS account and click on My Troops.
- Select Purchase Lifetime Membership for the person in your troop or household or you can select this option at checkout when renewing.
- Follow the prompts to complete and pay for your Lifetime memberships.
- Girls ages (18-29) qualify for the Young Alum Lifetime membership discounted rate of $200 and will be prompted with this option on the choose payment type section during your membership renewal.
