Showing love and appreciation for volunteers is a powerful Girl Scout tradition. After all, our volunteers are ah-mazing. Let’s be sure to shout it from the rooftops—take a moment to nominate a fellow Girl Scout who has made a difference!

The 2021 nomination deadline has been extended to February 15. Awards will be presented at the following Volunteer Recognition Celebration.

Volunteer and Community Partner Awards

Appreciation Pin

The Appreciation Pin is for outstanding service to at least one community. The Appreciation Pin (a GSUSA award) is a square, gold-tone pin with the Girl Scout logo.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Service to one or more geographical areas or service units
Outstanding service beyond position expectations

Examples of possible candidates for this pin might include:

The manager of a very successful product sale
The director of an outstanding local day camp or program event
A manager whose leadership of a service unit has seen an increase in membership and a stable retention pattern
An adult who works directly with girls so well that the result is an increase in the retention rate

What's the nomination process?

Two individuals or groups familiar with the service performed by the nominee must complete the nomination form or submit a letter including all requested information to the Girl Scouts of Western Washington Adult Recognition Committee by February 15. Nominators will receive an acknowledgment of receipt.
The Adult Recognition Committee will review on-time applications that contain two complete nominations.
All nominators will be notified of the committee results, and successful nominees will be informed that they will receive the award at the Annual Meeting.

Honor Pin

The Honor Pin is for outstanding service to two or more communities. The Honor Pin (a GSUSA award) is a round, green enamel pin with a gold-tone trefoil and laurel wreath design.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Service to two or more geographical areas or service units
Exceptional service beyond position expectations

Examples of possible candidates for this pin might include:

An individual who directs a successful area-wide day camp
An individual who manages consistently successful program events for the Girl Scouts of Western Washington.
An individual who manages excellent learning events for parts or all of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington
An individual who introduces Girl Scouting to the wider community through significant community action or community organization team strategy

Three individuals or groups familiar with the service performed by the nominee must complete the nomination form or submit a letter including all requested information to the Girl Scouts of Western Washington Adult Recognition Committee by February 15. Nominators will receive an acknowledgment of receipt.

Thanks Badge

The Thanks Badge is for outstanding service that benefits the entire council or Girl Scout community. The Thanks Badge (a GSUSA award) is a large, gold-filled enamel medallion on a blue grosgrain ribbon pin.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Outstanding service to all Girl Scouts of Western Washington and/or the entire Girl Scout organization
Service so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate

Examples of possible candidates for the badge might include:

An administrative volunteer who manages the total adult learning function within the council at a consistently high level
An individual who, over a period of time, supervises a council wide encampment or event resulting in membership retention and continuous delivery of Girl Scout program
An individual who initiates and successfully manages the extension of Girl Scouting to underserved populations within Girl Scouts of Western Washington jurisdiction, such as ethnic groups previously underserved, girls with disabilities, etc.
An individual who contributes significantly to the total Girl Scout organization in the delivery of Girl Scout program

The Thanks Badge II is for outstanding service council-wide or beyond having already received the Thanks Badge. The Thanks Badge II (a GSUSA award) is a small, gold-filled enamel medallion, similar to the Thanks Badge.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Has already received the Thanks Badge
Continuing outstanding service to all Girl Scouts of Western Washington and/or the entire Girl Scout organization
Service so significantly above and beyond the call of duty that no other award would be appropriate

Examples of possible candidates for this badge might include, but are not limited to:

A candidate who, after many successful Girl Scouts of Western Washington learning events, went on to plan and direct a statewide or regional learning event.
A candidate who, after successfully influencing Girl Scouts of Western Washington with an area of expertise, branched out to become a consultant to other groups, e.g. management consultant for nonprofit agencies in a community
A candidate who has initiated a program delivery system within Girl Scouts of Western Washington that has successfully influenced retention and quality programs, and that has been shared with others throughout GSUSA

Volunteer of Excellence Award

The Volunteer of Excellence Award is for outstanding service while working directly with girls. The Volunteer of Excellence Award (a GSUSA award) is a round, silver-tone pin with the Girl Scout logo.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through use of the national program portfolio, OR
Outstanding service in support of the council’s mission delivery to girl and adult members.

Examples of possible candidates for this award might include:

A volunteer advisor working with a teen advisory committee who planned and delivered four program days based on the aMuse journey to underserved areas, resulting in 60 new Junior members and 12 new adult volunteers, 92 % of whom went on to sign up for other opportunities during the year.
A volunteer who worked with fund development to plan a regional donor event and recruited potential donors; the event surpassed the attendance and monetary goals, and 86% of the guests made an additional donation during the annual campaign later in the year.

Juliette Low Leadership Award

The Juliette Low Leadership Award is for outstanding service working directly with girls over an extended period of time. The Juliette Low Leadership Award is a round gold pin with embossed trefoil.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Performed outstanding service directly to girls of any program level for an extended period of time and/or greatly enriched program for girls and/or created a program of inspirational quality
Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate girls
Made a significant impact on the girls involved, the Girl Scout community and/or the community at large

Examples of possible candidates for this award might include:

An individual who facilitates an annual girl-planned and girl-implemented event
An individual who travels throughout Girl Scouts of Western Washington providing hands-on science program to troops

Vivian Caver Diversity Award

The Vivian Caver Diversity Award is for outstanding efforts to promote diversity within the Girl Scout community. The Vivian Caver Diversity Award is a round gold tone pin.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Demonstrated commitment to diversity and pluralism over a period of time; a role model to both adults and girls
Significant contribution to promotion of diversity and pluralism in the Girl Scout community and/or the community at large
Effort made to reach out to serve and to increase the involvement of diverse populations in the council

Examples of possible candidates for this award might include:

An individual who develops and implements an ongoing diversity program
An individual who makes an ongoing effort to increase the diversity of Girl Scouts of Western Washington girl membership, or adult volunteer corps

Norma Raver True Girl Scout Award

The Norma Raver True Girl Scout Award is for extended and significant support of the Girl Scout mission. The Norma Raver True Girl Scout Award is a framed certificate.

What makes a volunteer eligible for this award?

Visibly exhibited a sincere commitment to the Girl Scout Promise and Law over an extended period of time
Repeatedly inspired others to carry out the Girl Scout mission
Actively supported and promoted the goals and objectives of Girl Scouts of Western Washington
Made a significant impact on the entire council or all of GSUSA

Examples of possible candidates for this award might include:

A past council president who made a significant impact on the council’s forward movement
A volunteer who has given over 50 years of service and continues to mentor new volunteers

Community Partner

The Community Partner Award is for service to Girl Scouts. The Community Partnership Award is a certificate showing Girl Scouts of Western Washington's appreciation for an individual community member or group.

What makes a community partner eligible for this award?

Examples of possible candidates for this award might include:

A church, organization, business, etc. (or individual in one of the preceding places) who has donated space or otherwise supported Girl Scout program

Outstanding Community Support Award

The Outstanding Community Support Award is for meritorious service to Girl Scouts. The Outstanding Community Support Award is a plaque signifying the highest honor Girl Scouts of Western Washington can award to an individual community member or group.

What makes a community partner eligible for this award?

Meritorious service of lasting value, for the benefit of all Girl Scouts of Western Washington

Examples of possible candidates for the appreciation pin might include, but are not limited to:

A business, organization or individual who has donated an extensive amount of time or money to benefit Girl Scouts of Western Washington, i.e. computer systems, phone systems, legal support, camp maintenance or enhancement, etc.
