Girl Scouts of Western Washington Delegates

Girl Scouts of Western Washington Delegates elect our Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting.

Delegate elections are held each year as part of a service unit meeting.  A Lead Delegate may be elected at this time as well if there is not one currently in place.  Nominations for Lead Delegate and Delegate are made from the members in attendance at the meeting or who have voiced interest prior.  Additionally, each service unit may elect a youth member who is at least 14 years old and is a registered member of Girl Scouts. Substitute delegates may also be selected so that, should an elected delegate be unable to attend, there will be representation at the Annual Meeting.

Members who attend the service unit leader meeting where elections are held will be asked to sign in and participate in the election. The only requirement to participate in the election is to be a registered Girl Scout member at the time of the election.

National Girl Scout Delegates

Every three years Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) holds a National Council Session (often called the convention) that brings together Girl Scouts from across the US and territories to discuss, debate, and vote on issues important to the Girl Scout Movement and elect national leaders for the next triennium.  Girl Scouts of Western Washington elects delegates from the membership body to represent our council at the National Council Session (NCS).  Girl Scouts of Western Washington is committed to ensuring youth voices at NCS and by tradition approximately half of our delegation is comprised of youth members.  Girl Scouts who will be 14 years old by July 16, 2023, are welcome to apply for this opportunity, as are adult Girl Scouts of Western Washington members.

Normally, Girl Scouts of Western Washington chooses delegates to represent our council who have not had the opportunity before. Because of the pandemic and the online nature of the 2020 NCS, we will accept applications from 2020 NCS delegates as part of the competitive application process.

  • Dates: July 16–23, 2023
  • Location: Orlando, Florida
  • Cost: Girl Scouts of Western Washington will cover the cost of air travel to and from the convention site, ground travel in Florida, lodging fees, convention fees, and a reasonable per diem for associated costs including meals.  Personal purchases such as souvenirs are the responsibility of the delegate.
  • Time commitment: Three training sessions prior to travel, convention dates, and possible travel days the day before or after the NCS.
  • Post-event: Delegates are responsible for sharing the information from the NCS with council membership at events such as Service Unit Roundtables.

Applications are due by May 5, 2022, and will be reviewed by the Board Development Committee of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington Board of Directors. Please direct questions to Shannon Pitton at shannonlp@girlscoutsww.org
