Support the Girl Scout Camp Experience

Girl Scouts walking around camp

Girl Scout Camp is transformative. Take it from Girl Scout and Counselor Kelly C.:

“I still keep in touch with most of the people I met in my first CIT year, 8 years ago. Camp introduced me to some of the best people and exposed me to one-of-a-kind experiences that I will forever be grateful for. How many people can say they went bioluminescent kayaking, horseback riding, hiking, and made so many great friends all in one summer?”

Getting to spend time outdoors with their Girl Scout sisters is not just a way to reconnect to the joys of life and nature, it’s literally a cure for the trauma of the past year. The last year and a half of the COVID-19 pandemic isolated girls from their friends, communities, and extended family. Spirits fell as girls and their families struggled to make it through a truly difficult year, which is why mental health, resilience, and recovery have become top priorities for our council.

That’s where camp comes in. Research consistently shows that spending time in nature improves cognitive thinking and lowers blood pressure and cortisol, the hormone associated with stress. This summer, girls are in person at a few of our camp properties including Sugar Pine. Thank goodness we built new unit cabins and those fun covered wagons a few years ago with your help! Now girls are enjoying the outdoors in COVID-safe adventure pods.

Your contribution to the Camp Investment Campaign will make sure girls have the space, support, and resources to unplug, relax, and reconnect with nature, with their sisters, and with themselves. Gifts of $25 or more will receive this year’s collectible patch that highlights the covered wagons at Camp Sugar Pine.  We only have a limited number of patches available, so don’t wait to donate to the Camp Investment Campaign! Visit  www.gsnorcal.org/camp-investment to donate.
